Audrey B. (Boosie or Boots) Box
Ripley, Mississippi--- Mr. Audrey B. (Boosie or Boots) Box 90, passed away on Wednesday May 10, 2017 peacefully at his home in Ripley after an extended illness. He is preceded in death by a son, Paul Laynton. He leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Scott Kuhl of Ripley; his son and daughter-in-law, Doyle and Valinda Box of Nashville, TN; his grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jaromy and Sarah Kuhl of Pensacola, FL; his grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Brent and Tonya Kuhl of Ripley; his grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Seth and Gaby Kuhl of Memphis. TN; and his granddaughter, Shanti Box of Nashville, TN, his step-granddaughter Camilla Hester of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren; Hunter and Hayden Kuhl, AnnElyse and Eleanor Kuhl, Sophia Kuhl and Tyler Skaggs. He was born and raised in Tippah County, he was the son of the late Hugh and Virgie (Lewellen) Box. Boosie, the nickname he received as a small child, leaves behind many, many friends who he and his family considers family. Boosie was a lifetime member of the Chapman Church of Christ. He loved sitting by the entry to the sanctuary so he could meet and greet members. After graduating high school at Pine Grove, he served in the Military. He left home for a short stint in the Navy, and made his career in the National Guard. It was during a training mission at Fort McCoy, WI, that he met and married Sharon Purdy. He served his country proudly during three wars, WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. In 1973, he started the Box Motor Company. He not only took pride in his business, but truly relished the friends he made during his time in car sales. Boosie was a life time member and past State Commander of the American Legion in 1995-1996. He continued to support and be active in the organization up until the last week of his life. He truly loved Post 81. He loved a great meal- he called it a "feed' - socializing, Ray Price, Hank Williams, and country music in general, his legion buddies, and fishing. He Loved a car so big all you could see was his little head behind the wheel.
Pall bearers will be Rosco Storey, Jaromy Kuhl, Brent Kuhl, Seth Kuhl, Tyler Skaggs, Jodie Criswell, Scott Kuhl.
The family is most grateful for the loving care and kindness of his caregiver, Linda Johnson and the nurses of Legacy Hospice.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Legion Post 81 for the purposes of a scholarship by Boosie's grandchildren in his honor that will be made available to a Tippah County High School Senior entering the military upon graduation.
